Free Speech is one of the basic principles to guarantee civic participation in democratic processes. This requires efficeint information of the public, so that all members of society share a mutual basis for politicak and social participation. Current trends in market liberalisation and ownership concentration tend to undermine content diversity and cultural pluralism. Various alert campaigns like Green Ribbon and Blue Ribbon try to build awareness for the importance for free speech in democratic societies.
